Since making the statement that a knock on the bathroom door is the 4th worst thing a mom can hear while she's in the shower, I've been asked a couple of times for my list. So here it is... the Top 5 Worst Things to Hear While in the Shower
5. The phone ringing
Little harm can befall you from the phone ringing in the shower. The worst things that can happen are that the baby could wake up or your child might answer it and then wail outside the bathroom door for you while you frantically try to rinse the soap off of yourself, assuming you had gotten that far.
4. Knock at the bathroom door
As discussed in Kiddopotamus Toilet Paper Review, this is manageable. Mostly it happens when someone needs to potty or is lonely and just wants to chat. I only have one child out of the womb right now, but I imagine it can also happen during a sibling spat when one or more children is looking for a safe haven or to voice their opinion. This is best solved by letting the kid in before the situation gets any worse. Skitter to the door and back, assuming you were foolish enough to lock it in the first place.
3. Sounds of dismay
Sounds of dismay include, "Uh-oh", "Oopsie", and "MoooooOOOOOOOOMMMMMM". Something has spilled, broken, escaped out the window, or otherwise become unsafe or intolerable. Rinse yourself off, wrap yourself up, and run out to the kids before the stain sets.
2. Knock at the front door
Obviously, you have discussed on several occasions that your toddler / preschooler / kindergartener should not open the front door without permission. Our motto is, "anyone who can come in has a key". This is repeated several times before any shower attempts are made. Once, I tested kiddopotamus by running out to fetch something from the car and knocking on the door before unlocking and entering it. When I opened the door, he was sitting frozen in horror on the couch with eyes as wide as a cornered animal. This is good. This is exactly what we want. Immobility.
1. Silence
Await no further instructions. Rise, Wrap, Run.
