Liebster Award

I've received another blog community award, this one a little more well known, called The Liebster Award. The rules have changed over time, but the most recent were given to me by Domain of the Mad Mommy, and they are very much like the Sunshine Award I received last month.

11 interesting things about Mamapotamus

  1. Of all of the new and old TV shows that Papapotamus and I really, really want to catch up on, we have decided that our TV time is best spent by re-watching every episode of The Office in order from start to finish. Maybe after that we will finally watch Breaking Bad, Sleepy Hollow, Agents of SHEILD, Walking Dead, and Once Upon a Time.
  2. My very first job, for which I was not paid money, was taking care of horses where I took my riding lessons. One Summer I spent every day at the stables cleaning stalls, grooming & feeding horses, rotating the pastures and taking care of tack. I was paid with the horseback ride I was able to take at lunch time every day. I would ride one of my two favorite horses out to a field and have a picnic under a crabapple tree. That was the most rewarding job I ever had, until I became a mom.
  3. I have tried telling my fetus that we are eating healthy for the next 6 months, but it still insists on eating pizza rolls almost every day. What can I do? What baby wants, baby gets.
  4. I've always been able to have at least a little control over my dreams. When I was a small child (under 6) and dreams would get too scary, I would turn into a goose and fly away into another dream where usually Scooby Doo would protect me.
  5. Last night I asked Papapotamus for some of his chocolate Costco muffin and he gave me 3 bites. All of them were from the southern hemisphere of the muffin. Not a single nibble contained any muffin top. Perhaps I should call him Stingypotamus?
  6. Despite the aforementioned stingy muffin incident, I think my husband is literally THE hottest guy on the planet. I know it sounds cliche, but it's true. Every time he comes home from work I act like Elvis just walked in. He's starting to get used to the squeals and giggling. The fainting is an issue.
  7. I once told my mom she was going to "The Devil's Place" because she didn't buy Kool-aid for us when we were kids.
  8. When I was in elementary school I used approximately 150 sheets of paper to make posters which I hung up around the neighborhood asking people to stop wasting paper and start recycling.
  9. I straight up LOVE my hamster. Not being able to hold her or play with her has been the worst part about being pregnant. I would rather double my morning sickness if it meant that I could interact with Peaches Fantastic (the hamster). Sometimes we stare at one another longingly through the glass of her hamster habitat. I just want to kiss her little pink nose again. Papapotamus has assumed all hamster husbandry, but he doesn't kiss her on the nose at all. Sometimes he puts her in her ball and lets her run through the room I am in, but when I call her over (yes, she comes when she is called. Is that true love or WHAT?) he makes her get away from me. The poor thing hasn't been hand fed a Cheez-it in MONTHS.
  10. Sometimes Kiddopotamus still wants me to read Goodnight Moon to him. I always read it very slowly and savor every second because I'm always sure that each time will be the last time and I want to be sure I remember it.
  11. ONE TIME my husband took me out into the wilderness and I had to pee outside. We were in the desert so I was trying to hide behind a tree the width of a toothpick and master the art of dangling my butt at the right angle over my pants while watching out for rattle snakes. I made one long whine through the entire process and then watched my pee roll down a dirt hill and right into a chipmunk hole. Sorry Chip and Dale.

Now I have to answer 11 questions which were given to me.
Who has had the biggest influence on you?
My fetus. He/She influences what I eat, when I sleep, when I wake up, how many times I vomit during the day, what makes me cry (the broken flagpole outside of Burger King), what makes me sick (canned whole chicken at the grocery store), and my level of urinating on self. (It's not if, it's when and how bad)

What do you like about blogging?
I like to think that people read what I write. I enjoy the comments on the blog, but I often get them in real life or on facebook. Sometimes they are out of the blue. Someone may randomly ask me, "So how much toilet paper are you going through these days?"

What do you dislike about blogging? (Be honest!)
The pressure. I don't mind being asked when my next post can be expected, and I love hearing what people think about what I write, but I put a lot of pressure on myself to churn out new stuff. I'm trying to go easy on me.

What makes you laugh out loud?
When my kid acts like me. He gives me the raised eyebrow, the crooked smile, or mimics my speech and I lose it. In the back of my mind I think, "Oh man, I am really in for it now. The payback is about to begin!"

What is your favorite movie?
My favorite movie is Amelie. While I am not particularly interested in France - especially since the "freedom fry" movement- I have to tell ya that they makes some great movies. Studying film ruined films for me, but those French cinematographers know how to get the job done. Every shot in the movie is stunning. If you are into film or photography do yourself a favor and watch it... alone... in a movie theater.

What is your favorite quote?
When I was a kid slouching on the couch my dad used to walk in and ask, "Are you boring?" Everyone else assumed it was my dad's accent and that he meant, "Are you bored?" But he didn't. My dad also says my all-time favorite quote, "Only boring people get bored". So he really did mean to ask if I was boring. As in, are you so boring that you can't come up with a single way to entertain yourself other than watching MY TV in MY favorite chair?

What is your favorite form of social media?
E-vites. It's social, it's online, it qualifies. It also ends in a real party and that's my favorite part.

Do you have any tattoos or piercings?
Yes, and here is my take on that... I've got 'em, I'm stuck with 'em, I wish they were gone. It's not that I don't like them or I wish I had something else, I just wish I didn't have anything anymore. I'm not buying into that "my tattoos are a timeline" crud because I'm not trying to live in the past.

What is your guiltiest pleasure? (food, tv, book, game etc)
Pizza Rolls. Definitely Pizza Rolls

If you had to give up one habit, right now, what would it be?
I understand addiction more than some people think because I am addicted to Diet Coke. I'm off it during the pregnancy, but I think that the 9 months I'm carrying the baby plus the time I spend nursing will be my longest streak of being Diet Coke free. It is HORRIBLE for you, it kills brain cells, it's a drug, and I can't stop it for more time than is necessary to shield my baby from it.

What 3 things are in closest proximity to you right now?
Placenta, laptop, pillow.

Here is the part where I write 11 questions for my nominees, but I'd like to open them up to my readers as well.
